CLUNCH MAGAZINE CC
Burwell Museum & Windmill
We opened on Easter Sunday, and despite the best
eTorts of the weather, we had a successful weekend. We
had over 200 visitors who enjoyed the Easter Egg Hunt.
We were joined by Lory Beat an artist from Ely who has
redrawn our site map, as well as our resident Blacksmith,
Wil of Steel. He will be joining us every other weekend
throughout our opening season, please check our
website before visiting if you speciFcally want to see him.
For 2024 we are trialling a change in opening hours. We
are now open on a Saturday and Sunday, unless its a
Bank Holiday when we will open Sunday and Monday.
Please see admission fees on our website and details of
our Annual Memberships too. We will be opening our Tea
Room only on Thursdays from mid-May, (no admission
fees as the rest of the museum is closed). Please check our
website for details.
In February we ran two volunteer recruitment days. We
successfully recruited some great volunteers but we are
still in need of help in various roles particularly with our
Collections team, who help manage and preserve our
exhibits.
Some of the things the Collections team get up to are
trying to identify who are in pictures that we have. These
photos are up on the wall in our Past & Present Gallery
but we dont know who they are. Can you recognise
anyone in these photos? Get in touch if you do!
Although we have a full programme of events planned for
2024, the Museum is suTering with the cost of living crisis
like everyone else. We are having to make what little
money we have go further literally to survive, and we are
desperately in need of funds to enable us to continue to
operate. It may surprise you, but it costs approximately
25,000 a year to operate the Museum and Windmill
and that is without any paid staT being employed. We
are just starting our fundraising campaign, so if anyone
has experience of this, or thinks they can help us and want
to get involved, please get in touch about joining our team.
If you dont have fundraising experience but you want to help, how about you consider giving
a regular payment to support us could you donate an amount per month for as much or as
little as you can? Gift Aid it and we can get a further 25% on top of your donation. Contact us
at museum@burwellmuseum.org.uk to Fnd out more.
During May we opened for National Mill Weekend which is always a popular event, and
showcases our Stevens Mill on the National stage.
On the 16
th
June we are holding a Pets and Vets of Burwell, Dog show Bur-Crufts, a new event
for 2024. Check our socials and website for details as to how to enter your dog for our awards.
Following this we are holding a 1940s D-Day 80
th
Anniversary Commemoration event on the
13th July. Come along and join us more information will be available on our website www.
burwellmuseum.org.uk.
Dont forget if you have an annual membership, you can visit the Museum and Windmill any
time throughout the year including event days and you can use our Tea Room where we hope
to tempt you with home-made cakes and refreshments for sale
We look forward to welcoming you all to the Burwell Museum and Windmill.
