Burwell Repair Cafe
We are holding the next Burwell Repair Cafe
on Sunday 29th September from 2pm to
5pm.
Please come along and get your broken
items Fxed - with a cuppa and a piece of
home made cake while you wait.
Do you have a broken laptop that you don't
know how to Fx? Or a coat with a broken zip
that you want to wear again. Or even an old
bike in your shed that has a rusty chain?
If you bring it to our free repair cafe on
September 29 our expert repairers will do
their best to Fx your broken item. The cafe
will run from 2pm to 5pm in Mandeville Hall,
Burwell.

Here are some suggestions for items we will
try to mend:
Small electrical appliances
Bicycles
Clothing in need of repair
Small pieces of furniture
Desktop computers, laptops, printers
Jewellery that needs cleaning/repairing
Toys, lamps, items that need glueing.
Whatever it is, book it in and bring it along.
We have now held seven repair cafes so far
and our repairers have examined 342 items
and managed to repair 198 items in total.
This adds up to 58 percent of the items
brought in. A further 109 items were
repairable and 35 were broken beyond
repair. This work by our volunteers has
prevented 882kg of waste going to landFll
and prevented 4115kg of Co2 emissions.
This is the carbon equivalent of driving
10524 miles or charging 271,659
smartphones.
Burwell Church Lands Charity
GRANTS AVAILABLE
If you would like some funding to help with
the education of children in your care,
Burwell Church Lands Charity (Registered
Charity No
207509) may be able to help you. It makes
small grants to assist children and young
people living in Burwell (Cambridgeshire)
with their education.
Grants may be made towards the cost of a
tutor, computer, music lessons, or transport
costs for example, and requests should be
supported by relevant documents. If your
application is successful, the Trustees will
need to receive evidence of how the grant
has been used. Your data will be kept safely
in accordance with the Charitys Privacy
Policy, which is available on request and will
be sent to applicants. The Charity meets
quarterly in March, June, September and
December and applications are considered
at these meetings.

Trustees
The Charity is also in need of two trustees,
particularly those with knowledge of
education or building conservation or
preservation.
Potential trustees would need to live in the
parish of Burwell and be sympathetic to the
work of St Mary's Church. The Trustees meet
four times a year on a Monday evening, and
answer some correspondence throughout
the year.

Community
Fund Coming Soon!
Plans are being Fnalised for a new fund
dedicated to beneFting the residents of
Burwell & Reach parishes. Grants will be
available for projects that, for example:
strengthen the community and build
resilience provide or maintain community
assets and/or enhance the environment/
surroundings for the beneFt of those
communities.
The fund is made possible by the new
Burwell Solar Farm managed by EDF energy.
Eligible groups will be able to apply online
through local charity Cambridgeshire
Community Foundation (reg. 1103314)
